DRK helpers wore a blue and white pinstripe dress made of a light cotton. Pinstripes ran vertically. Sleeves were worn long and buttoned at the wrist and the white collar was detachable for washing and reversability. A pleated and buttoned blouse top led into an attached a-line skirt, which fell several inches under the knees. May dresses contained a decorative ruffled detail around the bottom to preserve feminimity. Around the waist was a pinstripe belt whose stripes run horizontally. 

Aprons came in two colors, white for ward use and black for work use. The straps coming from the bib were made long to criss-cross in the back and tie in the front, under the bib at the waist. Waist straps were then pulled around the back normally and brought to the front, on top of the apron, and tied in a small bow. Each apron is fit with one exposed pocket on the right side, on both sides, making the apron reversible when soiled. 

Helper's caps were made of a startched white cotton embroidered with a small red cross in the center front. The brim of the cap is turned over once to give the hat dimension. The cap is then tied back at nape of the neck, and excess fabric is bloused under the tie. Caps were never worn loose like a bandana. Caps were used to ensure hygiene in the hospital environment. 

Worn on the left arm and secured with safety pins, the armband contained a BEVO embroidered red cross with a circular script that read Deutsches Rotes Kruez. Be careful of the font you may see in reproduction arm bands, there is only one correct font. Any variations other than those shown below, such as with a circle around the text or armbands containing runes/swastikas, did not exist and are purely fantasy items. In the photos, an original is on the top and a reproduction armband below. 

DRK Helpers wore a circular brooch at their necks attached to the dress. There were two variations that were appropriate to wear: a simple helpers brooch containing the title "Helferin" and a senior helpers brooch with the title "Schwesternhelferin" . The senior helper's brooch was given upon completion of a course that took approximately six months to complete.

Shoes were made of a natural or matte black leather, no patent leather is acceptable. The cut was low around the ankle, in a simple laced oxford style. Heels should be no more than 1.5 inches tall. In inclement weather, black leather boots are acceptable. 

Part of the uniform was the equipment you carried. The helper's bag was a small 17cm x 20 cm brown leather bag, worn off the right shoulder and over the left side hip. It would hold a small array of bandages and tools.
